The revised figures also confirm that a total of 328 licenses have been granted in 2025 so far. Of these, 318 were approved between January 1 and January 6, just before President John Dramani Mahama assumed office. This means the current administration has issued only 10 licenses—an increase from the single license initially reported by JoyNews.

As a result of these updates, Ghana’s total number of active mining-related licenses has risen to 2,246, marking a 119-license increase from the previously recorded 2,127.
Additionally, the total number of mining-related licenses issued during former President Akufo-Addo’s eight-year tenure (January 6, 2017 – January 6, 2025) has been revised. Initial data from JoyNews indicated that 2,037 licenses were granted under his leadership, accounting for 95.7% of all active licenses at the time. However, the updated figures now put this total at 2,147, reflecting an increase of 110.
