In a bold move to alleviate food insecurity, the Richard Nii Armah Quaye Foundation—established in February 2020—is set to roll out its first-ever Food Bank initiative, targeting underserved communities across Ghana. This powerful social responsibility effort aims to provide consistent, nutritious food support and combat hunger among vulnerable families.

Founded by award-winning entrepreneur and philanthropist Richard Nii Armah Quaye, the Foundation focuses on empowering deprived Ghanaians through education, training, financial grants, and entrepreneurial mentorship. The Need: Addressing Food Insecurity

Despite Ghana’s rising economic indicators, many communities continue to face food shortages due to poverty, seasonal droughts, and inadequate local support systems. The new Food Bank Project intends to:

• Collect surplus food from corporate donors, farms, and supermarkets

• Package staple items such as rice, maize, cooking oil, vegetables, and protein

• Distribute regular food packages to families with low income, the elderly, and persons with disabilities

• Work with community leaders to ensure transparent distribution and track impact

This initiative builds on Chief Executive Officer Quaye’s track record of community support—including his previous donations during emergencies like the Adum market fire.

Project Structure & Rollout Plan

The Foundation has outlined a phased strategy for implementing the Food Bank:

1. Pilot Phase: Distribute to select communities in Greater Accra and Ashanti regions.

2. Partnerships: Collaborate with NGOs, local governments, and religious bodies to reach urban and rural households.

3. Funding Memorials: Earn ongoing support, including options for regular donations through the Foundation’s official website.

4. Volunteer Mobilization: Leverage volunteer networks to manage food collection, packaging, and distribution.

5. Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E): Establish robust M&E systems to track delivery outcomes, including meal frequency and beneficiary satisfaction.

Why This Matters

The Food Bank Project complements the Foundation’s existing programs—such as youth entrepreneurship training and small grants for innovators—by addressing immediate basic needs. • Expansion Plans: The Foundation aims to establish a network of Food Bank hubs in five additional regions by the end of 2026, reaching thousands more families in need.
