A woman is seeking help and advice after her husband left home over two weeks ago following an ongoing disagreement about household finances. The couple, who share one child, had established a structured financial agreement that worked well for both until recent economic hardships in Ghana prompted the wife to ask for more money to support the home.

Despite the husband’s consistent efforts to fulfill his financial obligations, a breakdown in communication and emotional strain eventually led to his unexplained disappearance—a development that has left the wife in distress and deep regret.

A Financial Arrangement That Was Working—Until It Wasn’t

According to the wife, her husband earns just over GHS 2,000 a month. Of this, he saves GHS 800, contributes GHS 1,200 toward household expenses, and keeps GHS 300 for himself. In addition to his financial contribution, he reportedly covers their child’s school fees and still finds ways to buy small items for the house and their daughter out of his limited personal funds.

“I check his account from time to time, and the savings are there. He’s been good. Even with what he keeps for himself, he supports us beyond what I expect,” she shared.

She also works and earns GHS 1,600 monthly. Out of her salary, she saves GHS 1,000 and contributes GHS 600 to support the home. However, her husband has never questioned how she manages her income or how much she saves.

The Disagreement That Drove Him Away

The issue began earlier this year when the wife requested an increase in his monthly household contribution—from GHS 1,200 to GHS 1,400—to help ease the rising cost of living. Her husband explained that this was not financially feasible for him, as reducing his savings or personal allowance would destabilize their long-term plans, especially concerning rent and other major expenses.

He suggested she reduce her savings slightly and contribute more from her own salary if the home needed additional funds. However, she was unwilling at the time and instead continued to pressure and insult him, often turning the home into a hostile environment in hopes he would give in.

“He would always say nothing or walk away. Sometimes he threatened to leave, but I never imagined he really would,” she admitted.

Eventually, her husband left home. It has been over two weeks, and he has cut off all communication. Efforts to reach him through family and friends have proved futile, as no one seems to know his whereabouts.

Deep Regret and a Plea for Help

The wife now deeply regrets her actions and acknowledges how unfairly she treated her husband, who had been responsible, respectful, and committed throughout their relationship. She admits she let frustration and financial pressure cloud her judgment, leading to emotional abuse that pushed her husband away.

“I’m scared. I miss him and I’m very sorry. I’ve realized too late how much he sacrificed for us,” she confessed. “Now, I don’t know what to do. Should I report to the police or wait? I need advice.”

Community Reactions and Advice

The situation has sparked concern among those close to the couple, with many urging the wife to consider reporting the incident to the police—not to accuse him, but to ensure he is safe and accounted for. Others recommend she focus on self-reflection and emotional readiness in case he decides to return, emphasizing the need to rebuild trust and communication.

If you’re in a similar situation, consider seeking help from a counselor or mediator to guide conversations about money and emotional well-being. Relationships thrive on mutual respect, empathy, and understanding—especially during financially difficult times.
