Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah has extended his stay at Liverpool by signing a new two-year contract, putting an end to speculation over his future.

The 32-year-old forward’s previous deal was set to expire this summer, and there were widespread rumors about a potential transfer to Saudi Arabia. His public remarks during the season had fueled uncertainty over whether he would remain at Anfield.

However, Salah has opted to continue his journey with the Reds, giving him the opportunity to build on his impressive tally of 243 goals and 109 assists across 393 appearances.

“I’m really excited – the squad we have now is fantastic,” said Salah. “We’ve always had a strong team, but I renewed my contract because I believe we can win more trophies and I still love playing here.”

He added, “I’ve spent eight years with this club, and I hope to make it ten. I’m happy on and off the pitch. These have been the best years of my footballing life.”

So far this season, Salah has netted 32 goals in all competitions, with 27 coming in the Premier League as Liverpool close in on a record 20th league title. They currently hold an 11-point lead over second-placed Arsenal with seven matches remaining.

Since arriving from Roma in 2017, Salah has won multiple major honors with Liverpool, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

He was one of three high-profile players approaching the end of their contracts, alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk. While Van Dijk has confirmed progress in renewal talks, Alexander-Arnold continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Speculation Ends Around Salah’s Future

Despite uncertainty for much of the season, Salah is on pace for his second-best Premier League goal tally since joining Liverpool. With seven games still to play, he could match the 32 goals he scored in his debut campaign.

In a September interview with Sky Sports, Salah hinted that the 2024–25 season could be his last at Anfield, citing a lack of communication from the club regarding a new contract. He made the comments after scoring in a 3-0 victory over Manchester United, treating the match as if it might be his final appearance at Old Trafford.

Later that year, following a win against Southampton, Salah expressed frustration over the club’s silence, suggesting he was “probably more out than in.” At the time, Liverpool maintained that negotiations with his representatives were progressing positively.

However, by January, Salah stated the two sides remained “far apart” in contract discussions.

Throughout the saga, Salah was heavily linked with a transfer to Saudi Arabia. In 2023, Liverpool rejected a £150 million bid from Al-Ittihad. The Kingdom’s sports minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, had described Salah as “a major prize” and publicly expressed interest in bringing him to the Saudi Pro League.

Nevertheless, new Liverpool manager Arne Slot made it clear in January that he wanted Salah to remain at the club, praising the forward’s maturity and judgment in handling his future.
