In a heartfelt anonymous post shared with Blogger Selasi, the narrator recounts how his former girlfriend repeatedly attempted suicide — and how he stood by her side, unaware of the real reason behind her mental struggles.
“I Thought She Was Struggling with Family Issues”
According to him, his then-girlfriend tried to end her life multiple times, and despite not understanding what was pushing her to that point, he chose to support her with patience and compassion.
“I thought it was family issues,” he said. “I didn’t want to pressure her to talk, so I gave her space. But I stayed close, made sure she was safe, and did my best to care for her.”
However, outsiders began to paint a different picture of him. Because the girl reportedly told people her suicide attempts were related to “relationship issues,” some assumed the young man was either toxic or abusive.
“I know I never treated her badly. I loved her. I supported her. Even my best friend knew how much I was trying,” he added.
A Night That Changed Everything
The situation took a dangerous turn one evening when the girl drank a whole bottle of Dettol in an attempt to take her life.
The narrator rushed her to the hospital, driving through dangerous, rain-soaked roads to get her emergency care. Thankfully, she survived — and her family was alerted about the incident.
But it was after this that the truth began to unravel.

“She Had a Long-Time Boyfriend I Knew Nothing About”
The man revealed that he later discovered his girlfriend had been in a serious relationship with another man — someone she had been with long before meeting him.
Apparently, her secret boyfriend had discovered she was involved with someone else (the narrator), and that revelation pushed him to end things with her. That breakup, not any issue within the current relationship, was what triggered her suicide attempts.
“It broke me,” he confessed. “She tried to end her life because someone else broke up with her — while I was the one trying to save her.”
Haunted by the Past, Struggling with the Present
Now in a new relationship, the man says the past still weighs heavily on him.
“I can’t fully trust the one I’m with now. That girl messed my head up so badly,” he admitted. “My insecurities are getting the better of me. What should I do?”
Finding the Way Forward: A Gentle Word of Advice
Situations like this can leave emotional scars that don’t fade easily. It’s important to acknowledge the trauma, but also to actively seek healing:
- Therapy can help process betrayal and rebuild trust. You don’t have to carry the weight of the past alone.
- Open communication with your current partner is key. Being honest about your fears and insecurities can help build a stronger, understanding bond.
- Don’t blame yourself for the actions of someone who was dishonest. You acted out of love and care.
Relationships can deeply affect our mental health — but healing is possible. One heartbreak doesn’t define your worth, and trust, though damaged, can be rebuilt with time and the right support.
